Open Traffic Project

Sophic wants to initiate Auckland Open traffic Project 2018 for measuring and understanding exact micro conditions in Auckland streets. Sophic wants to set up New Zealand first citizen-run network of traffic stations in the city of Auckland.

We’re looking to partner with businesses and individuals staying or working by main streets around Auckland CBD and nearby suburbs to help collect critical information from various Auckland streets.

Our pilot programme is looking for 10 locations around Auckland CBD. The real time data collected by public using Sophic devices will be open for public access. The Open traffic project will enable citizens by giving them open access to micro level street trends and insights.

So, what is Sophic and why Sophic

Sophic is an early stage startup building IOT infrastructure and tracking sensor for street level tracking.

Sophic wants to crowdsource data that can power a wide variety of tools from personal navigation, transportation optimization, and planning and analysis.

This is Sophic’s first public crowdsourcing trial, we have been building our technology and infrastructure for a year now and have used it commercially to help retailers, however now we wants to put our technology in hand of people to open it up for everyone.

We think open data collection approach allows for a “virtuous cycle” of consumption and contribution. That is, those who use the outputs of the open-data source are also equipped to contribute to extending its coverage and quality.
